Greetings from Austin, TX!

Last week, no doubt about it, was one for the books and definitely in the top five taxing moments of my life.

Our experience was the same as many others = multiple days without power, shattered plumbing that led to our water valve being shut off, and scarce healthy food options.

As the pipe in my kitchen blew out on Tuesday afternoon, the fire sprinkler and vents in my home started to leak water at the same time. Ugh. At that moment, I knew that I had taken a prominent spot in Miller family lore.

Empathy Uprise's mission to shift humanity from “me” to “we” was lived out in real-time last week.

I am beyond grateful for the care and concern generated from fellow Texans, friends, and family, both near and far. Thank you all so very much for your kind gestures and loving thoughts.

What was lost will take time to replace. What is irreplaceable is the humanity of the moment and how empathy took center stage.

We are focused on recovery efforts and plan to resume regular EU social and Shine A Light newsletter content next week.

Until we meet again, let your love light shine bright. ❤️

Yours in Solidarity, -akm
